WHEN AND WHERE IS CONVENTION?

The 2020 National Convention will take place from Friday, June 26, through Sunday, June 28, in Baltimore, Maryland at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront.

IN WHAT TIME ZONE IS BALTIMORE, MARYLAND?

Baltimore is in the Eastern Daylight time zone. 

WHEN SHOULD I REGISTER?

Registration opens February 2020. Registrations received after April 27 will incur a $50 late fee. Online registration closes May 27; however, on-site registration will be available for an additional $25 on-site fee (on top of the $50 late fee) during June 26-28 as space allows. 

DO THE DELEGATES HAVE ADDITIONAL MEETINGS?

All voting delegates are required to attend the delegates meeting Friday, June 26, at 5 p.m. EDT. Please plan your travel accordingly. Before convention, an initial virtual training for delegates will be held June 2, 2020 at 9 p.m. EDT to review chapter meeting rules and protocol for elections. HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE CONVENTION CHOIR?  

The convention choir is open to all alumnae and collegians. If you are interested or would like to know more, contact volunteer@alphachiomega.org.   

WHAT IS STAR BOOTH AND WHEN DOES IT OPEN?

Star Booth is a time-honored tradition to recognize those real, strong women who have empowered and supported your dreams. Each $10 gift you make to the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation Star Booth honors someone in your Alpha Chi Omega story, and all honorees will receive notification (via a star on their nametag for convention attendees and via email for non-attendees). Your gifts support the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation’s Real. Strong. Women. Fund, ensuring the life-changing benefits of Alpha Chi Omega for future generations, and are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law. Star Booth will open for online giving in May 2020.  

WHAT IS THE HALL OF MEMORY?

The Hall of Memory is a time when we pay tribute to former national officers and sisters who have passed away since the 2018 National Convention. If you know of sisters you would like to see recognized during the Hall of Memory, please complete this form by Friday, May 27, 2020. Information received after this date cannot be guaranteed to be included for recognition at convention. 

What is the membership milestones ceremony?

Members celebrating their 50, 60 or 75-yr membership milestones have the unique opportunity to be presented with their pin during the 2020 National Convention. Any member celebrating a 50, 60 or 75-yr milestone in 2019 or 2020 is invited to sign up to participate in the ceremony which will be held at the beginning of the national chapter meeting on Sunday, June 28 at 9 a.m. EDT. To participate, select the appropriate ‘Yes’ option when registering for convention. Options include “Yes – 50 year”, “Yes – 60 year”, or “Yes – 75 year”.

WHAT IF I CAN ONLY MAKE IT FOR SOME OF THE DAYS OR EVENTS?

Part-time registration is available to accommodate a variety of schedules. À la carte registration allows attendees to select education sessions and/or meals separately. Members may attend national chapter meetings at no cost.

New for 2020 is the option to register for one day, perfect for those who want to drive in for the day to experience convention. The Friday Only, Saturday Only or Sunday Only options include all schedule items available for that day.

WILL ON-SITE REGISTRATION BE AVAILABLE?

Although it is not recommended, on-site registration is available for full-time and part-time attendees. It is on a first-come, first-served basis; space permitting; and will incur a $50 late fee as well as a $25 on-site registration fee.  
Note: Reserved seating at the Reunion Night dinner is not guaranteed when registering onsite.

Specific to the Friday off-site activities: If you arrive in time to participate in the Baltimore excursions and/or the Baltimore service project, you may be able to sign up for those events on-site if space is available. Pre-registration is STRONGLY encouraged.

HOW MUCH DOES CONVENTION COST TO ATTEND?

Full-time registration is $775 (if registered by April 27, 2020) and offers the best value for members looking to enjoy a taste of everything that makes convention what it is. For full details on what this includes or for alternate registration package options, visit the Registration Options page.

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO LOWER MY ATTENDANCE COST / SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES?

The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation provides alumnae convention assistance through the McWhirter Grant. The application is due April 15, 2020 and is available online

HOW DO I MAKE MY HOTEL RESERVATION?

Please use this link to book a room within the Alpha Chi Omega room block. To make a reservation via telephone, please call 410-385-3000 and reference the group name "Alpha Chi Omega." This will allow you to reserve a room using the discounted rates available specifically for Alpha Chi Omega 2020 National Convention attendees!

HOW DO I GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL?

From the Baltimore/Washington International Airport, the hotel is about a 20-minute drive away; the taxi stand is located just outside the baggage claim, and ride-shares can be met at the terminal curbs on the Departures/Ticketing level of all terminals. Additionally, the MTA Light Rail service is available for a fare of $1.90 each way; the airport station is located outside the lower level of the terminal building, adjacent to Concourse E. 

SINCE HOTEL ROOMS ARE DOUBLE OCCUPANCY, HOW DO I FIND A ROOMMATE?

While headquarters does not pair roommates, convention attendees are encouraged to find a roommate to share the cost of the room. For your convenience, the Alpha Chi Omega National Convention 2020 Facebook Event page is an excellent place to connect with others interested in sharing accommodations. We also recommend reaching out to your local alumnae chapter to identify travel buddies and roommates.

Note: Alpha Chi Omega does not make hotel reservations on behalf of attendees. You are responsible for making your own hotel arrangements.

WHEN SHOULD I PLAN TO ARRIVE?

Click here to refer to the convention schedule to determine your travel plans based on your specific role at convention. The first official event for delegates is a mandatory meeting on Friday, June 26 at 5 p.m. EDT. The first official event for all attendees is the Welcome Dinner on June 26 at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

WHEN SHOULD I PLAN TO HEAD HOME? 

Attendees may depart any time on Monday, June 29 without missing any official events. However, if you wish to extend your trip (with or without family or friends), there are great conference hotel rates and area attractions to take advantage of in Baltimore!

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO WHEN I ARRIVE?

  • Check in at the hotel lobby to receive your room key. Bellhop tips are not included in the registration fee, so please tip accordingly ($1-$2 per bag is recommended).

  • Visit the Alpha Chi Omega registration desk on the third floor to pick up your tote bag, convention program, nametag and more! Take time to review the materials so you can prepare yourself for the days ahead.

  • Stop by the Star Booth to purchase stars for your friends and loved ones.

WHO NEEDS TO ATTEND THE DELEGATES MEETING (FRIDAY, JUNE 26, AT 5 P.M.)?

This meeting is required for all province alumnae chairs, province collegiate chairs, alumnae chapter voting delegates, collegiate chapter voting delegates and Past National Presidents. WHAT IS THE EXPECTED ATTIRE?

The best examples can be found by following Alpha Chi Omega on Pinterest.

Here are a few reminders: Badge attire is expected for all meals and education sessions except Reunion Night dinner and Carnation Celebration.  For Saturday Reunion Night Dinner, spirit wear in the form of school colors or shirts from your college/university of initiation are encouraged! Bring along school pride decorations for your table as well, such as pennants and pompoms. Our Sunday evening Carnation Celebration is semi-formal attire as we celebrate the greatest accomplishments of our organization over the past two years. Those participating in Friday’s optional Baltimore excursions and/or service project may wear jeans  to those events. All attendees are required to wear all white, business casual (aka badge attire) and white or flesh-toned shoes for the first national chapter meeting.

WILL THERE BE ALPHA CHI OMEGA ITEMS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ON-SITE?

Of course! Apparel, jewelry, décor and more will be made available from multiple on-site licensed vendors.

HOW DO I APPLY TO BE A VENDOR OR SPONSOR?

Vendors have already been selected for the 2020 convention. If you would like to be placed on a waiting list, please email Jill Richardson, associate director of marketing and communications.
